CS2 Mouse Acceleration: Why You Should Turn It Off (2026)

Learn why mouse acceleration ruins muscle memory in CS2 and how properly configuring your raw input settings can improve your aim consistency.

CS2 Mouse Acceleration: The Silent Aim Killer

In a tactical shooter like CS2, consistency is the most valuable asset a player can have. However, one hidden setting often undermines this consistency: Mouse Acceleration.

What is Mouse Acceleration?

Normally, if you move your mouse 10 centimeters, your crosshair moves a predictable distance on the screen. With Mouse Acceleration enabled, the distance your crosshair moves depends on how fast you move the mouse.

If you move the mouse fast, it "accelerates" and moves much further. If you move it slowly, it moves less.

Why It Ruins Muscle Memory

Aiming in FPS games relies on muscle memory—your brain knowing exactly how much physical movement is required to reach a specific point on the screen. Because acceleration adds a "velocity" variable, your brain can't easily build a reliable map of movements.

The Exception

While Windows and in-game acceleration are generally bad, some pro players use specialized software like Raw Accel. These provide linear curves that can be learned, but these are advanced tools not recommended for most players.

Recommendation

Go into your CS2 settings and ensure "Raw Input" is ON and all acceleration values are 0. Consistent aim starts with predictable movement.
