CS2 Mouse Acceleration: The Silent Aim Killer
In a tactical shooter like CS2, consistency is the most valuable asset a player can have. However, one hidden setting often undermines this consistency: Mouse Acceleration.
What is Mouse Acceleration?
Normally, if you move your mouse 10 centimeters, your crosshair moves a predictable distance on the screen. With Mouse Acceleration enabled, the distance your crosshair moves depends on how fast you move the mouse.
If you move the mouse fast, it "accelerates" and moves much further. If you move it slowly, it moves less.
Why It Ruins Muscle Memory
Aiming in FPS games relies on muscle memory—your brain knowing exactly how much physical movement is required to reach a specific point on the screen. Because acceleration adds a "velocity" variable, your brain can't easily build a reliable map of movements. You might overflick during high-intensity moments just because you moved your hand a bit faster than usual.
The Exception: InterAccel and Raw Accel
While Windows and in-game acceleration are generally bad, some pro players use specialized software like Custom Curve or Raw Accel. These provide linear and predictable acceleration curves that can be learned, but these are advanced tools not recommended for most players starting their journey.
